The sudden demise of 14-year-old Aubrey Genesis Horne on February 7, 2024, has shocked all of Dunn, North Carolina, to its core. So to her family and friends, to society, it is a big hole in their hearts. She was such an extremely bright girl, loving, talented, and so full of cheer. Life is short, but those moments she spent laughing, loving, and living with kindness were abundant.
Aubrey Horne Bio and Early Life
Aubrey was born on 30 July 2009. She lived in Fayetteville, North Carolina, but her origin remains unknown until the date of the last edit. As such, a son of Alicia and David Horne, a good, loving little daughter, perhaps bringing happiness upon meeting them.
She was born of three sisters, Alexis, Jada, and Harmony, to loving parents. Therefore family was very important to Aubrey, and she had a special place in her heart for all members. Important people in her life are grandmothers Claudette McLeod and Cathy Broome and great-grandmothers Carrie Horne, Sue Byrd, and Marie Moody, who filled much love and wisdom within her.
The home was always warm and merry with Aubrey; she liked it when family members were around the table, but she recalls each memory of these meals through different games to those stories of her school. So, her hospitality, kind heart, and lovely nature made her this all-time favorite daughter, sister, and granddaughter.
Loving Soft Ball and in the School
She was the most athletic person ever and enjoyed playing any sport. Thus she focused on softball as her main interest and enjoyed playing for the Locked and Loaded travel softball team, improving, perfecting, and enhancing her ability, work ethic, and sportsmanship.
The determination others admired her for mostly manifested itself on the field and beyond. So she was very reflexive and was very good at batting; hence, whenever she encouraged people, she was definitely raising the confidence level of the people.
Aubrey was a good student, aside from being good in sports. So she was a freshman at Triton High School.
She was open to learning, eager to be challenged, and aiming for something good in school. So, she focused on softball as her main interest and enjoyed playing for the Locked and Loaded travel softball team, improving, perfecting, and enhancing her ability, work ethic, and sportsmanship.
Her teachers and classmates remember her as an intelligent, cheerful, and pleasant student who brightened the school environment. So she had that natural curiosity and always came out to help others with their schoolwork.
Aubrey’s Caring and Giving Nature
Aubrey made people feel special. Thus she lightened up each room with her beautiful smile and contagious energy. That’s the true meaning of a friend—one who provides unwavering support, love, and laughter. Her friends would remember vividly that they had such a lot of memories with her, whether it was having late-night talks, school activities, or just hanging out together.
She was also very smart and active in her community. Aubrey loved to have fun around the local area, with a strong willingness to assist whoever needed it. Her heart has always been one of kindness: a true need to make an impact. Helping out neighbors or assisting a friend in need even volunteering in school.
Besides other virtues, she loved animals, too. Aubrey used to enjoy time with her dogs and was close to them. She acceded to stray animals and, sometimes, gave them houses to stay. Compassion with everyone was one of her virtues.

She planned to play softball in college and later help people after achieving that goal. Aubrey always wanted to be a teacher or a counselor. She thought that would be the best way of sharing her kindness.
The Funeral Service and the Community Support
The funeral service occurred on February 14, 2024, at Hodges Chapel Church in Dunn, North Carolina. This was a day of mourning but also a day of thanks for the opportunity to know such a lovely soul. It was a very full church; there were a lot of people whose lives Aubrey had touched.
The family buried her in Devotional Gardens in Dunn. The community displayed immense love and support for her and her grieving family as many people shared memories with me, expressed sympathy, and comforted those who were deeply broken.
